My Creative Journey: Falling in love with design
My path to design didn't start on a screen - it started with my hands, shaping clay and sculpting materials into something meaningful. Working across ceramics, sculpture, and collaborating with all kinds of people taught me to appreciate the process behind every creation. Here's how those hands on roots led me to fall in love with design.
The Beginning
My creative journey began with ceramics and sculpture, where I first discovered the foundations of the design process. Working with clay taught me to empathize with people, to sketch and ideate freely, and to embrace collaboration by sharing ideas with others. The hands-on nature of building and iterating gave me a deeper sense of adaptability and patience. Ceramics also showed me the power of storytelling and how impactful design can be in addressing real-world issues and challenges in unexpected, creative ways.
3 Months
"3 Months" was a collaborative project that addresses the issue of gun violence. Each of the 706 vessels is representative of a child or teenage victim of gun violence in a three month period. During this project, we spent time ideating, researching, and experimenting with form. "3 Months" was installed in the Massachusetts College of Art and Design's Arnheim Gallery.
The Present
These lessons learned from ceramics continue to drive my design process and they are what kickstarted my love for design and the creative process.
