3 Months

The design process in a physical form

"3 Months" was a collaborative project that addresses the issue of gun violence. Each of the 706 vessels is representative of a child or teenage victim of gun violence in a three month period.

Through depicting such a large number, we wanted to draw attention to the horrifying toll that gun violence inflicts on us in a nation of minimal gun control. However, we also wanted to highlight the unique and fragile nature of the clay. The unfired, organic forms are each unique and beautiful and deliberately left unfinished as a way to evoke the feeling of sudden loss. Through this work, we hoped the viewer would see beyond the statistics and into the sorrow and grief of the situation as this is how we provoke change - through action and conversation.

"3 Months" was installed in the Massachusetts College of Art and Design's Arnheim Gallery.
