First Steps

Problem Statement

As individuals become increasingly busy, there becomes limited time to prepare delicious dishes. Young adults are too busy to learn and get inspired about cooking and need a way to develop and maintain healthy eating habits.

Solution

A mobile community platform for individuals to explore, discover, and get inspired by recipes that can accommodate their busy schedules.

I first started with an ethnographic field study and user interviews to observe and understand user weekly cooking behaviors. Empathizing with users informed my personas and user flow.

Iterations

In designing DelishDish, I went through multiple iterations of design and usability testing sessions. My design decisions were informed by specific user paint points. Here are some examples:

  • Users often didn't have time to cook the meals they were being shown, creating disengagement: I added functionality that lets users set their time preferences surfacing recipes and inspiration that fit within the window they usually set aside for cooking.

  • Users often didn't know exactly what ingredients they needed to purchase, making grocery shopping feel disorganized: I added a feature that automatically generates a shopping list from the recipes users select removing the manual effort and streamlining the path from recipe to checkout.

  • Users often didn't know what to cook or how to prepare a meal, leading to decision fatigue and frustration: I designed clear, step-by-step instructions alongside curated suggestions drawing from community favorites and cuisines to help users decide what to make and guide them through it.

Next Steps

With increased research on similar competitor apps and also understanding how quickly technology is developing, I'd like to build on the shopping experience and recipe instructions experience. Using Voice AI guide users through recipes or AI to generate shopping lists and scale recipes, there is greater possibilities for DelishDIsh to provide market value and scale..

I also believe food is central to connection so I'd also like to create a community building element centered around recipes can drive engagement.
